Sunday, May 31st, 2015

Well, it's right past 7:30 pm and I still haven't made it to making a cup of coffee. Yep, it's been one of those kind of days....Life of a mom x 3.

However, the kids and I did manage to make it through Publix in order to use the $10 off $50 Apple Market purchase coupon from this Wednesday's paper..... even though half of the groceries I purchased are now in my kids' bellies.

I love thunderstorms..... especially when home with my kiddos. GREAT movie-watching and snuggle weather. Kind of bummed that it only lasted for 30 minutes. Now, the sun is peeking out and I hear sweet little birdies chirping. Back to laundry and cleaning, I suppose.

Yes! It's Saturday!.....and a windows open, Pandora playing kind of morning.
Cleaning is just so much better with music!!! :)

-------

Alright, it's now 6:15 pm on Saturday and I'm just now able to sit down and plan a couponing trip. The life of a mom. :) Anyhow, I FINALLY made the coffee that I initially wanted to make this morning, but never got the chance. So, here I am, warm coffee-filled mug within reach and two pretty girlies sitting and playing on the floor next to me. I love being a mom. Nothing better in the world. Not even my oh-so-sweet coffee.

As I spend a bit of time this evening looking over coupons and upcoming sales for tomorrow, I will add to this post any new (recommended) printable coupons I find along the way, so check back soon!

Friday, May 22nd, 2015

The school year is coming to a close, my students and I are smack-dab in the middle of semester exams, my 6-year-old son graduates from Kindergarten on Tuesday, May 26th, and my 3-year-old is finishing her first week of real homework from pre-school. Two more "showings" of our Pensacola home scheduled for tomorrow and only two more weeks until move day! Private swim lessons are in full swing, as well as finishing my final days of water aerobics instruction at the Downtown YMCA.

Due to it being Friday, that also means I need to get my coupons and grocery trip to Target planned. As a working mom, week days are so extremely busy and exhausting that I typically don't even sit down and look over the week's sales and coupon match-ups until now....or Saturday morning. Then, sometime mid-Saturday, I pile all three kiddos in the car and we make our journey to Target.

I LOVE TARGET. A savings of 50% is my typical average there when buying groceries, baby supplies, household items, etc. Sometimes, when I have more time to dedicate to planning and matching coupons, I'll save 65-70%, sometimes even more. I've saved so much since I began couponing in October/November 2011 prior to the birth of my now-3-year-old daughter.

It was in October 2011 that I awoke around 5am to a feeling that made me feel quite queasy and off-center. I knew something was wrong. No, I wasn't in labor. My water didn't break. I immediately checked my cell phone. My heart dropped. My husband had been in a car accident. He was okay enough to text and let me know he had been hit on his way to work (he was a truck driver and would typically leave home around 4:15am), but I didn't know details and he wasn't answering his phone. I knew God would watch over him and keep him safe, so I did what any working mom/teacher had to do. I got my son ready for pre-school and went to work with worry in my stomach and constant prayer going through my head. It was, on that day, while nearly 9 months pregnant, that I became the sole income for our family.

In order to make ends meet, I adjusted our expenses quite a bit. No longer did we have a second vehicle, due to my husband's SUV being totaled in the wreck (he was t-boned and essentially the direct line of impact), so that meant one less car insurance payment each month. I cut back our cable and my husband's dearly beloved ESPN. Yes, I know. Terrible, but completely necessary. On a positive note, I was be able to have my husband stay at home with our new baby and 3-year-old, rather than have two children in daycare. This was a huge plus. I also picked up more evening shifts at the Y. Thank goodness I had my part-time job, in addition to my full-time job. Otherwise, our finances would have been MUCH worse. This is also when I REALLY started couponing, which leads me to where I am now. :)

Sunday, May 17th, 2015

So, here I am...sitting at the kitchen table, my baby girl playing on the floor next to me, front door wide open, windows open, watching the two older kiddos playing outside. I LOVE Sundays. Already mowed the front yard....although, NOT excited about mowing the backyard. It has become quite the jungle. As some of you know, we are selling our current home in Florida and moving to Arkansas in just a few weeks. Therefore, getting the backyard cleaned up is a must at this point. Maybe after lunch when both the 9-month-old and 3-yr-old napping. Ya know, when it's 90+ degrees outside.... compared to now when it's 10:30 am and only 80. Ha. :/

For you all just coming across this blog of mine, or really, for anyone that has already been following, I welcome you!

Much has changed in my life and blog over the past year and a half, but even more will be changing from this point on. As some may or may not know, I have been working two jobs for quite some time.....5 years as a full-time school teacher/educator and nearly 12 years as a part-time swim coach/instructor. Being able to support my family on that income alone was what drove me into couponing. I had to coupon to make ends meet.

However, after years and years of working, three children, two large-breed dogs, and one "inherited" turtle ;) later, I have decided to pause my full-time teaching career in order to spend more time at home with my children. As one can imagine, this is a HUGE change in my life, as well as risk, but I could not be more excited! Motherhood is incredible and as a working-mom, being away SO much, has taken it's toll. I'm sure many, many of you working mommies understand ALL TOO WELL. ESPECIALLY the breastfeeding/pumping working mommies. Talk about some MAJOR stress making sure enough milk/feedings are at daycare each day! As a side note, I am SO proud of myself this 3rd time around. I have now made it 9.5 months exclusively breastfeeding! After baby #1 my body decided to quit on me around 4-5 months, and then again at 6 months with baby #2. So, close to 10 months and still going strong is a record for me! Yay!

Anyhow, as I mentioned above, WELCOME to thefitcouponmom.com!!! I am beyond excited to have you following this new wild and crazy journey of mine!
